Try the things your game uses
- Walk behind and in front of the grass. Check sorting in both dense and sparse areas.
- Move and zoom the camera, leave the area, then return. Confirm the plants are still in the right places.
- Try wind, shadows and the interaction shapes used by your characters.
- Add, move and remove plants through your gameplay controls. Check the visible result, not only the returned count.
Check saving separately
- In the Editor, try temporary Play Mode edits, Save on Stop and a manual save. Stop Play Mode and check the result.
- Save a backup, change a few plants, then load it. Confirm that Delete Backup leaves the plants alone.
- In a Player build, test your own save system. Writing back to Editor assets is not available there.
Test a build on the target hardware
Use Unity's Profiler to measure your scene. Check camera movement, dense patches and large runtime edits. Editor windows add their own cost, so also compare a Player build.
